Every December the same scene plays out across the villas of Canggu and Seminyak: someone opens a laptop on the 20th to book "a chef for Christmas dinner", and discovers that every decent private chef on the island has been spoken for since November. So here is the guide we wish everyone read in September — what a festive villa dinner in Bali actually looks like, what it costs including the honest holiday premium, and when to lock your date.
Christmas Dinner at a Bali Villa
Christmas in board shorts is strange for about an hour, and then it is wonderful. The format that works: a long late-afternoon dinner at your villa — we shop that morning, cook in your kitchen, serve, and leave the kitchen cleaner than we found it, same as any private dinner. The menu is yours to shape. Some families want the full tradition — roast chicken or imported turkey, root vegetables, proper gravy, a flamed pudding. Most land on what we quietly think is the better answer: tradition with the island's produce. Whole roast snapper instead of the turkey centrepiece, grilled king prawns beside the ham, mango-passionfruit pavlova where the trifle would be. Imported turkey exists in Bali but it is ordered two weeks ahead and priced like the flight it took — we will tell you the real number before you commit.
New Year's Eve: the Long Dinner
NYE at a villa splits into two styles. The party — music, a crowd, a countdown — and the long dinner: five or six courses paced across three hours, wine open, dessert timed to land before midnight fireworks light up the coast. We cook the second kind, and for couples we build it as a romantic dinner with the table set away from the villa lights. Groups of six to sixteen are our sweet spot; for a bigger celebration with staff and styling, that becomes villa catering, and for a casual crowd a BBQ chef on the terrace beats a formal table.
What Festive Dinners Cost (Honestly)
Our regular pricing is public — dinners from IDR 900,000 per person, menu-dependent, and the full breakdown lives in the cost guide and on the pricing page. December 24th, 25th and 31st add a holiday premium of roughly 20–30% on the chef's time — those are the three nights every chef on the island works, and the premium is standard across Bali, not a tourist tax. Ingredients price normally, with two exceptions: imported turkey and premium seafood spike in the last week of December, so festive menus are confirmed — with real numbers — before you pay anything.
| Festive format | Indicative price |
|---|---|
| Christmas dinner, tropical-festive menu | from IDR 1,100,000 per person |
| Christmas dinner with imported turkey centrepiece | from IDR 1,500,000 per person |
| New Year's Eve long dinner (5–6 courses) | from IDR 1,300,000 per person |
| NYE romantic dinner for two, full setup | from IDR 3,500,000 per couple |
| Festive BBQ evening (Dec 26–30) | regular pricing — no premium |
That last row is the local secret: the nights between Christmas and New Year are regular-price, the chefs are relaxed, and the produce markets are fully stocked. If your dates are flexible, the 27th is the connoisseur's festive dinner.
The Booking Timeline
September–October: every chef, every menu, full choice — and this is when villas in Canggu and Seminyak with good kitchens still have availability too. Early November: still comfortable for Christmas; NYE slots start disappearing. December: we will always try, and cancellations happen, but by mid-month you are choosing from what is left, not from what is good. Turkey orders close around December 10th regardless.
How It Works
Message us on WhatsApp with the date, your villa's area, headcount and the direction — "Christmas for nine in Berawa, seafood-forward, one vegetarian, kids' plates for two" is a perfect brief. You get a festive menu proposal with a fixed per-person price the same day. We confirm the shop list, arrive on the day with everything, cook, serve, clean, and disappear before the carols finish. The villa kitchen only needs to exist; we bring the rest.
